Peter Urwantschky
Dr. Peter Urwantschky LL.M is founding partner and Head of Aviation at Urwantschky Jacobsen.
Peter studied law in Berlin, Munich and Paris and received his PhD with a dissertation on aviation law from the University of Munich. He earned an LL.M from Boalt Hall School of Law, Berkeley, USA.
Peter Urwantschky’s father, Dr. Alfred Urwantschky, had specialized in aviation law since 1955. Peter joined his father’s law firm Urwantschky Dangel Borst in 1981. In 1985 he became a partner.
Peter managed the aviation law department there together with his father for 20 years. After his father’s retirement in 2001, he became head of aviation and expanded the firm’s aviation department successfully.
After more than 40 years in the firm founded by his father in 1949, Peter decided to leave this firm in 2023. Together with Daniel C. Jacobsen, he founded Urwantschky Jacobsen.
Peter practices in the field of German and international aviation law. He advises his clients from the aviation and insurance industries in all aviation law matters. He acts, for example, for airlines, insurers, reinsurers, manufacturers, lessors, lessees and airport service providers. He deals with aircraft catastrophes and major accidents as well as liability and regulatory issues, transactions, insurance coverage issues, ground handling, passenger rights and EU law.
Peter was elected as Transport Lawyer of the Year by Who’s Who Legal (WWL). He is also listed as a Thought Leader – Global Elite by WWL in Transportation Law.
Peter is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the German Society for Transport Law, the Swiss Association for Air and Space Law and the European Air Law Association. He regularly speaks at air law conferences in Europe and overseas.
